Solar on Tile Roof

Solar on tile roofs is becoming more common in Central Texas. There are markets like Arizona and parts of California where clay tile makes up 90% of the systems installed. However, in Texas comp shingle roofs and standing seam metal make up the majority. As the population continues to grow throughout Central Texas, so does the diversity of preferences and we are starting to see much more clay tile and even slate in some cases.

Installing solar on clay tile presents some challenges that are not inherent with the standard shingle roofs. For one, how you move across the roof itself is very different. Clay tile is very resilient to the elements, but not so resilient to the foot steps of a 180 pound installer! As a result, our installation teams are trained in how to move across a clay roof so as to minimize the risk of breaking a tile. Not all installation companies are willing to take on the added responsibility of servicing this market and for good reason. However, the finished product can look incredible when done correctly.
